I think that by having social media accounts like Twitter, helps attract youths around the world to take a greater role in the life of the Church. Many people, especially youths, are constantly on Twitter. They read what people say and they spread the word. Tweets are available to anyone worldwide who has access to the internet. Millions and millions of people have the ability to view tweets. In addition millions have different opinion and ultimately dispute. By having the Pope on Twitter, it spreads the word of God more easily and efficiently. It is an easier and smarter way to reach out to youths on something that bares millions or eyes.
By having our Church leader tweet, gives everyone a way to listen to him directly, to ask him questions, etc. It is positive that millions and millions of people can witness what he believes and tweets but it is negative that millions of opinionated people who have different ideas of God and his doings can easily start something between religious beliefs. Religion is something that has the ability to tear families, friends, and nations apart.
I do not think that my parish takes part in social media. They are more 'old school' wanting to have the word of God be transferred by word of mouth compared to putting it online. They also do not even know how to work a site like Facebook or Twitter even if they wanted to.
Other than Tweeting and having a Twitter account, I cannot think of other ways that Church leaders can reach out to youths. Many ways have already been used. And personally the best idea is Tweeting. Many youths are on Twitter day in, day out, which means that our leaders' voice can and will be heard by many many people.
I agree with you when you say that the Church having social media accounts such as Twitter will attract youths to participate more in the Church. Like you said, millions of people have access to Twitter which includes the youth of the world, which allows them to see the word of God without having to leave their home. I think that eventually, more and more of the Church will participate in the social media world and it will encourage more teenagers to be a part of the Church.

As many teenagers already use Twitter, this will give them the opportunity to directly ask Pope Francis any questions they may have. Through his Twitter, he will be able to positively influence young people.
